What are Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers?

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are a non-surgical cosmetic medical treatment that uses injections of a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid to add volume and hydration to the skin. They are a popular and effective way to rejuvenate your skin and improve the appearance of aging signs.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in our bodies and is responsible for maintaining skin hydration and elasticity. As we age, our bodies produce less of this substance, leading to the formation of wrinkles, fine lines, sagging skin, jowling, loss of facial volume, symmetry, increasing pore size and prominence of old scars like acne scars.

Dermal fillers work by restoring the lost hyaluronic acid to the skin, adding volume, and improving the skin's hydration levels.

This results in a smoother, more youthful-looking complexion. The treatment is performed by a licensed medical professional and takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the extent of the treatment.

Dermal Filler Benefits

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can be used for a variety of purposes, including:

  • Rejuvenating the skin by reducing the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin.
  • Hydrating the skin to improve its overall texture and appearance.
  • Contouring the lips to enhance their shape and volume.
  • Improving the appearance of acne scars.

  • Quick and convenient: The treatment takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour with minimal prep and recovery time.
  • Effective: Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers have been shown to effectively improve the appearance of aging signs, hydrate the skin, and contour the lips.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable substances used to restore lost volume, smooth out wrinkles, and enhance facial contours. Common areas treated include the lips, cheeks, and under the eyes. Most fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin that helps retain moisture and adds volume.

How much do fillers cost in the UK?

The cost of dermal fillers in the UK typically ranges from £200 to £600 per syringe, depending on the type of filler, the amount required. Be wary of ‘cheap’ or ‘too good to be true’ prices for dermal fillers as you could end up with poor filler and poor results. We always recommend using a medically qualified practitioner. At Vysana all fillers are carried out by our aesthetic expert GP - Dr. Sunny Dhesi.

How much is 1 syringe of filler?

One syringe of filler usually costs between £200 and £600. The exact price can vary based on the type of filler and the area being treated.  At Vysana we list all our treatment prices upfront so you know exactly how much a treatment costs with no hidden charges.

Should I do fillers under my eyes?

Under-eye fillers can be very effective in reducing dark circles and hollows, giving you a more rested appearance. However, due to the delicacy of this area, it’s crucial to choose an experienced practitioner who understands the complexities of under-eye anatomy. GP, Dr Sunny Dhesi at Vysana specialises in delicate areas like the under eye.

Is filler cheaper than Wrinkle Relaxing Injections using Botox?

Filler is generally more expensive than Botox because it adds volume rather than just relaxing muscles. However, fillers last longer, which can make them more cost-effective over time.  The different treatments available are all discussed at your consultation so that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Do fillers sometimes not work?

Fillers are generally effective, but the outcome can vary based on the product used, the area treated, and individual factors such as skin type and age. In rare cases, the body may metabolise the filler more quickly than expected, leading to less noticeable results.

What are the downsides to fillers?

Possible downsides include bruising, swelling, and rare complications like infection or filler migration. Overuse can also lead to an unnatural appearance. It’s important to balance treatment with a focus on maintaining natural facial expressions.

Who shouldn’t get fillers?

Individuals with severe allergies, certain autoimmune conditions, or who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid fillers. Always consult with a healthcare provider to determine if you’re a suitable candidate.  At Vysana you will be seen by GP, Dr. Sunny Dhesi for your consultation prior to any treatment.

What is the best age to get fillers?

There is no specific age to start fillers; it depends on your skin’s condition and aesthetic goals. Many start in their late 20s to early 30s for preventative care, while others may begin later to address specific signs of aging.

What happens if you get too much filler?

Overfilling can lead to unnatural results such as "pillow face." It’s important to trust your practitioner’s judgment and avoid excessive treatments. If overfilled, hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.

What areas do you serve?

Vysana Clinic proudly serves Rutland and the surrounding areas, including Melton Mowbray, Stamford, Corby, Bourne, Wigston, Grantham, Leicester, Kettering, Loughborough, Peterborough, West Bridgford, Carlton, Spalding, Wellingborough, Sleaford, and other parts of Leicestershire such as Blaby, Stoney Stanton, Earl Shilton, and Barwell.

How long do fillers last?

Dermal fillers can last anywhere from 6 months to 2 years, depending on the type of filler used and the area treated. Hyaluronic acid fillers typically last 6-18 months, while fillers like Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) can last up to 2 years.

Is 1 syringe of filler noticeable?

Yes, 1 syringe of filler can produce noticeable but subtle results. It’s often enough to enhance areas like the lips or under the eyes, giving a natural-looking improvement.

What is the best filler for your face?

The best filler depends on your specific needs and treatment area. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvederm and Restylane are popular for their versatility and natural results. These fillers are also reversible, which provides added peace of mind.

What happens to your face after years of fillers?

When done correctly, long-term use of fillers can maintain a youthful appearance. However, overuse or improper technique can lead to issues such as "pillow face" or sagging skin. Regular consultations with a trusted practitioner can help manage these risks.  At Vysana, your consultations will be with Dr. Sunny Dhesi.  You can find out more in the video section of this page with an introduction to dermal fillers.

What is pillow face syndrome

Pillow face syndrome occurs when too much filler is injected, leading to an overly puffy or unnatural appearance. This can be avoided by opting for conservative treatment plans and ensuring your practitioner uses fillers appropriately. We always recommend using a medically qualified practitioner and only the clinic founder, GP, Dr. Sunny Dhesi carries out dermal filler treatments.

Can you buy filler and do it yourself?

No, it's illegal and highly dangerous to buy and inject fillers yourself. Dermal fillers should only be administered by trained and licensed professionals to ensure safety and effectiveness.

What happens if you don’t keep up with fillers?

If you stop using fillers, your face will gradually return to its natural state as the filler dissolves. This process does not worsen the skin’s condition compared to before treatment, but any volume loss due to aging will naturally continue.

What looks more natural, Wrinkle relaxing injections (e.g. Botox) or fillers?

Both can look natural when used correctly. Wrinkle relaxing injections like Botox are better for smoothing wrinkles caused by muscle movement, while fillers restore lost volume. The key to natural results is conservative application by an experienced practitioner.

What is filler fatigue?

Filler fatigue refers to the overuse of fillers over time, leading to a stretched or saggy appearance as the skin loses elasticity. Regular evaluations with your practitioner can help prevent this by adjusting the treatment plan as needed.

Do people regret fillers?

Regret typically occurs when fillers are overused or results do not meet expectations. Choosing a qualified practitioner and having realistic expectations can minimise the risk of dissatisfaction and is a reason why at Vysana you have a comprehensive consultation with GP, Dr. Sunny Dhesi.
