Dry vs. Dehydrated Skin: What’s the Difference?

Today, I’m diving deep into a topic that has puzzled many: the difference between dry and dehydrated skin. Do you know the difference and what to do to resolve it? Let’s find out.

Diving into the Skin Debate: Dry vs. Dehydrated Skin

Today, I decided to take a different approach. I refrained from applying any skincare to truly feel and understand the nuances between skin dryness and dehydration. And now, I’m here to share my findings with you.

Understanding Skin Dryness

Dry skin is the uninvited guest that brings flakiness to the party. It feels tight, rough, and tends to flake, much like a snowstorm on a winter morning. Imagine your once bouncy skin now resembling a deflated air mattress. That’s dryness stealing your skin’s elasticity. This condition can rob you of your natural glow, leading to dullness and accentuated fine lines. But fear not, with the right care, products, and treatments, we can combat this and restore your skin’s youthful bounce.

Tackling Skin Dehydration

On the other hand, dehydrated skin feels constricting, especially after a shower. Unlike dry skin, which lacks oil, dehydration is a lack of water. This condition can also lead to flakiness, making it confusing to differentiate from dry skin. The key is to understand that dehydration makes fine lines more prominent as the day progresses.

A Simple Demonstration

To help you visualise, in the video newsletter below, I demonstrated the layering of two distinct products: a serum and a day cream from different brands. The serum, with its small molecules, penetrates the skin, addressing dehydration. The day cream sits atop, forming a barrier, and tackles dryness. This combination can be a game-changer for both conditions.

Also, be careful if you are using a retinol or other exfoliant product as daily use of these can exacerbate dry or dehydrated skin. Before you check out today’s video…
