Scarring

From the scars that arise from wounds to those that come from acne, any form of scarring on your face may leave you feeling self-conscious or distressed. Scars on your face will appear when you encounter a wound or a blemish that you pick. After picking at the area, your body attempts to heal it quickly. Unlike the typical skin regeneration process, this leads to cell layers forming in random patterns, causing the skin in that area to look abnormal.

That abnormal area of skin is what medics refer to as scars. While they may not bother you on other parts of your body, your face is on show all the time. The wound healing process lasts for around eighteen months. During this time, your skin will attempt to make the scar less visible. However, you may find that without the right interventions, the injury never fully heals.

If you have scars on your face and you want to reduce them, there are ways you can tackle the problem yourself. Also, Rutland Aesthetics provides a range of cosmetic treatments that are ideal for scar removal. Also, if you’re prone to conditions such as acne and want to reduce the likelihood of experiencing a facial scar, there are ways to prevent one arising.

WHAT CAUSES SCARS ON YOUR FACE?

In simple terms, a scar is a mark that forms when your body encounters an injury and tries to heal itself. The appearance of a scar is a natural part of the healing process. If you encounter a minor wound, such as from a small cut or acne, your scar is more likely to become paler, flatter, and less noticeable over time. Such scars are easy to cover with makeup, but they don’t disappear entirely. If you have experienced acne in the past or you’ve encountered chickenpox, you may have what medics call ‘pitted scars.’ Acne scars are like crevices on your face. No matter what the injury is, your scar will form in the same way. Your skin has two primary layers: the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the upper layer; the one that you can see.

The dermis is a little further down; it contains blood vessels, nerve endings, and fatty tissues. The epidermis is very thin, which means it isn’t challenging to injure the dermis. When you do damage it, your body starts the wound healing process. Initially, this means attracting clotting factors to the area and a little inflammation, just to protect it. Providing the injury isn’t too big, your body will send collagen to the area to form a new layer of skin. Unfortunately, because your body is in a rush, the collagen lays itself down in a disorganised manner that doesn’t have the same pattern as the rest of your skin. Because of this, a scar appears.
