SMIILE & LAUGHTER LINES
What are smiles lines? well, smile lines are wrinkles or creases in the skin that occur on the face and run from the side of the nose all the way to the corners of the lips. They are referred to as nasolabial folds, to be distinguished from lines that occur on the cheeks, also often referred to as smile lines.
Nasolabial folds are one of the most commonly treated areas of the skin. Their appearance can often leave otherwise plump and youthful skin looking dull and sullen.
Smile lines occur when the skin is depleted of collagen due to continual creasing at one particular point. The loss of volume and elasticity can make a face look much older and contribute to a permanent ‘unhappy’ look.
Fortunately, there are various ways smiling lines can be treated and prevented.
WHAT ARE SMILE LINES?
Smile lines, nasolabial lines, or marionette lines, are wrinkles on the face that start at the nose and run all the way down to the corners of the mouth.Smile lines are different from wrinkles that appear on other parts of the face, and they often appear as a single, deep crease, rather than many shallow lines.Wrinkles
How are smile lines formed
Smile lines form the same way any other lines or wrinkles on the face are formed. They appear as a result of collagen being depleted from the skin due to constant creasing of a particular area. Collagen also reduces as a natural part of the ageing process, alongside elastin, which is a protein that would usually provide support.Facial movements and expressions are controlled by firm facial muscles, and it is widely believed that smiling activates at least two dozen of them. While your body is producing less collagen, robust and repetitive movement of the muscles creases the epidermis above them. The age at which most people start to get laughter lines can vary from your late twenties to your early thirties.Face CreasesConstant creasing at the same spot breaks down the skin and weakens the elastic bond that gives it its volume. The loss of that elasticity allows the skin to drop and weaken, which forms a line on the face. Depending on how much collagen was lost, the lines can range from shallow and subtle, very deep and prominent.
